BMVC 2013 - Instructions for Authors

Instructions for Presenting Authors

Poster Presentations:
BMVC2013 poster boards are 1m (width) x 2m (height), ideal for an A0 poster in portrait format. If you wish to print your poster at the University of Bristol, then this is doable at the cost of £40 (A0 portrait Full Colour Gloss - no lamination) payable in advance by debit/credit card only. The deadline for accepting posters for printing on site is September 1st 2013. The posters will be printed and available at the registration desk for pick up. Kindly note that posters cannot be printed on the day, and posters received after the deadline cannot be printed on site. Please contact our conference secretary Antonina Timofejeva for on-site poster printing.

Oral Presentations:
Within each 20 min presentation slot, oral presentations can last for a maximum of 17 minutes followed by Q/A and change of presenters. All Tutorials, Keynotes and conference orals will be recorded. Each presenter will be asked to sign a publishing consent form allowing their video to be published online. For this reason we ask that you ensure that your slides do not contain any copyrighted material. We will also need to have a copy of your slides to go alongside your talk; these will be collected during your oral session. If you are not bringing your own laptop then there will be a Windows desktop available for you to play your slides from (PDF or PPT). Again this can be tested in the break prior to your session, but make sure that you use standard Windows codecs if you want to show video material on the provided desktop. A full programme is available on the web at http://bmvc2013.bristol.ac.uk/programme.

(The conference reserves the right to remove a paper (oral or poster) from the DOI/ISBN publication list in 'no-show' cases, i.e. in cases where no presenting author actually shows up at the conference for presenting the work.)

FINAL Camera-ready Submission

Camera-ready submission for accepted papers is now open via CMT and have to be submitted by 25 July 2013, 23:59 GMT. At least one registration of an author is required per accepted paper by this date. e.g. for any two papers at least two registrations are required. For each accepted paper authors should upload:

  • final camera-ready paper (in PDF format)
  • final extended abstract (in PDF format)
  • optional supplementary materials (ZIP file up to 10MB)

FINAL Camera-ready Paper

You are highly encouraged to take the comments from the reviewers and the meta-reviewers into consideration when preparing your camera-ready version. In addition, the final version of the paper should add any information removed to anonymise the paper and remove any line numbering added for the review process. Use the template in the author pack for preparing your camera ready version. Papers should be prepared according to the published specification for formatting and style. The length should not exceed 9 pages excluding the author list and references (i.e. measured from the top of the abstract to the top of the reference list. Any appendices must precede the reference list.)

FINAL Extended Abstract

BMVC supplies a book of extended abstracts printed in high-quality colour as well as the online proceedings. It is therefore compulsory that all accepted papers are accompanied by a camera-ready "one-pager" for inclusion in the extended abstracts book. The one-pager is a great opportunity to allow the audience to see the essence of your paper, encouraging them to attend the talk or visit the poster. It is recommended that the authors devote some effort to preparing this summary, as it is rather different than just writing an abstract. For one thing, equations, figures, and references are encouraged and useful. A template for your extended abstract is available in the author pack along with an example.

FINAL Typesetting

Typesetting should preferably be done using the PDFLaTeX system (part of all modern LaTeX distributions). However, submissions prepared in Microsoft Word or OpenOffice will be accepted. We provide templates:

FINAL Supplementary Material

Authors can optionally upload supplementary material. Note that at most one such ZIP file can be uploaded. This might include a video to showcase results and demo the proposed approach/system, or image data used in the paper. BMVC encourages authors to submit videos using an MP4 codec such as DivX contained in an AVI. If you upload video, please include a README text file specifying the exact codec used and a URL where the codec can be downloaded.

Review Paper Submission

Review paper submission is now open via CMT. Authors should register as a user with CMT (you also need to "reset your password"), then create a new submission and enter the title and the abstract of their paper. This will result in the allocation of a "paper ID", which should be used in preparation of the review copy. The review copy together with optional supplementary materials must be uploaded before the final submission deadline (01 May 2013, 23:59:59 UCT). Please be sure to read both the formatting instructions and policies before submission.

Review Paper Formatting

A complete manuscript for review should be submitted according to the formatting style. The length should not exceed 9 pages excluding the author list and references (i.e. measured from the top of the abstract to the top of the reference list. Any appendices must precede the reference list.)

A paper ID will be allocated by CMT upon registration of a new submission. This paper ID should replace the submission number in the provided templates to facilitate the review process.

Manuscripts submitted for review should be anonymous. Avoid providing information that may identify the authors in the acknowledgments (e.g., co-workers and grant IDs) and in the supplemental material (e.g., titles in the movies, or attached papers). Avoid providing links to websites that identify the authors. Violation of any of these guidelines will lead to rejection without review.

Review Paper Typesetting

Typesetting should preferably be done using the PDFLaTeX system (part of all modern LaTeX distributions). However, submissions prepared in Microsoft Word or OpenOffice will be accepted. We provide templates:

  • LaTeX/Word/OpenOffice templates (zip): bmvc2013_sty.zip
  • LaTeX/Word/OpenOffice templates (tar): bmvc2013_sty.tar
  • Review example : bmvc_review.pdf

Review Supplementary Material

Authors may optionally upload supplementary material, which may include:

  • videos to showcase results/demo of the proposed approach/system,
  • images and other results in addition to the ones in the paper,
  • anonymized related submissions to other conferences and journals, and
  • appendices or technical reports containing extended proofs and mathematical derivations that are not essential to the understanding of the submitted paper.

BMVC encourages authors to submit videos using an MP4 codec such as DivX contained in an AVI. Also, please submit a README text file with each video specifying the exact codec used and a URL where the codec can be downloaded.

The authors should refer to the contents of the supplementary material appropriately in the paper. Note that reviewers will be encouraged to look at it, but are not obligated to do so.

Paper Policies

By submitting a manuscript to BMVC, the authors guarantee that it has not been previously published (or accepted for publication) in substantially similar form. Furthermore, no paper which contains significant overlap with the contributions of this paper either is under review at the moment of submission or will be submitted during the BMVC 2013 review period to any of the following: another conference, a workshop, or a journal. The authors also attest that they did not submit multiple substantially similar submissions to BMVC 2013. Violation of any of these conditions will lead to rejection.
